FINLAND's Port of Helsinki handled 40,788 TEU in July, marking an increase of 4.4 per cent compared with the same month last year.
Additionally, the Finnish port has moved 282,664 TEU in the first seven months of the current year, which translates to a slight growth of 0.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2021, reports Beijing's Container-News.
The increase in container traffic in July was mainly driven by the growth in exports.
Meanwhile, the total cargo volume in January-July was 8.9 million tonnes, which is 8.4 per cent more than in the same period in the previous year. Of this amount, 4.2 million tonnes was in import (+15.3 per cent), and 4.7 million tonnes in export (+2.5 per cent).
"Increased transportation costs, challenges in cargo traffic delivery chains and the effects of the war in Ukraine on general economic developments are presenting challenges to the Port of Helsinki's operating environment as well. However, the development of cargo traffic has remained positive so far despite the darkening general economic outlook," said the port.
