THE small Japanese flagged 1,680-dwt containership Maya capsized and sank to the bottom at its berth at Shunan Port, Japan, reports Rostock, Germany's FleetMon.
The ship lost stability during loading of containers, and capsized. Some 100 containers went overboard and drifted around in port area and Tolkuyama Bay waters.
Three crew who were on board, escaped, one of them was taken to hospital, with non-life threatening injuries. Some 40 litres of fuel leaked. Operations are under way to recover floating containers and contain fuel stain, said the report.
