NYK Line leads the way on biofuels with maiden Vietnam voyage

JAPAN's NYK Line has announced that its 49,035-ton wood chip carrier Daio Astral uses biofuel to reduce CO2 emissions and had transported cargo using biodiesel fuel to Vietnam.

This was the first time any NYK overseas-bound vessels had done this. By substituting biofuel for heavy oil, it reduced CO2 emissions.

The Daio Astral was especially designed for Daio Paper Corporation. Departing from Kinuura Port in Aichi Prefecture on June 22, the vessel utilised biofuel alongside its primary fuel, heavy oil. A week later, it arrived at Cai Lan Port in Vietnam on June 29.
