THE State of Arizona is selling shipping containers once that once served to extend the border wall with Mexico, but later was forced to remove them by the incoming Democratic administration, reported the Arizona Daily Star.

The 2,200 Grade C containers, between 10 and 20 years old, are first going to state agencies and nonprofit organisations from October 1.

And the asking price is far less than the state paid to buy them last year, even without considering the $100 million in taxpayer funds spent to erect them.

The state was forced to remove them - at the cost of another US$76 million - after Washington sued the state for trespassing on federal property.

Former president Donald Trump planned a wall between United States and Mexico but there were still gaps when he left office. On his first day in office, President Joe Biden called an immediate halt to further construction.

Last July the US Department of Homeland Security announced it had authorised Customs and Border Protection to seal some of the openings, including a 3,820-foot gap near Yuma.
