China's major ports' up 4.8pc in 5 months to 122 million TEU

PORTS in China have posted a container volume of 122 million TEU, an increase of 4.8 per cent year on year January to May, reported the UK's Seatrade Maritime News.

Overall cargo throughput came to 6.75 billion tons, a growth rate of 7.9 per cent.

The top 10 container handling ports are Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Xiamen, Suzhou, Beibu Gulf port and Rizhao.

Mainland China dominates the top 10 container ports globally with six of 10 located in the located in the country. The remaining four are Singapore, Busan, Rotterdam and Hong Kong.

The top 10 cargo handling ports by tonnage are Ningbo-Zhoushan,Tangshan, Shanghai, Qingdao, Guangzhou, Rizhao, Suzhou, Tianjin, Yantai and Beibu Gulf port.

Intermodal volume of domestic ports was 3.96 million TEU, up 10.2 per cent year on year, attributed to cutting logistics costs and improving efficiency.

Eleven coastal container hub ports have established one-stop service platform and their online business acceptance amount accounts for 86 per cent of the total volume.
